My training
Joining the Littlehampton Citizens Advice Bureau as a trainee adviser was probably one of the best moves I have ever made. The training, of subjects such as benefit, housing, debt, employment, immigration etc gave me the knowledge that I could not have gained anywhere else and leads to a certificate that is recognised nationally. the staff and other volunteers have been very friendly and supported me through the difficult times.
Luca Badioli, Trainee Adviser
Having joined as a trainee adviser in December 2003, I am now finding my feet and enjoying the challenge of advising on the many different issues clients bring to the bureau. During my time here, I have received tremendous support from staff and other volunteers and the certified programme of training leads to a nationally recognised qualification. Advising is challenging yet can be very rewarding, from helping with form filling to providing a managed programme of debt support. Volunteers are the backbone of the service and provide a collective of information on all aspects of life for the local community.

Training
We provide free training to anyone suitable who wants to become an adviser. The training leads to a certificate and is accredited by the Open College Network.
The course is based in our bureau with awaydays where you work with trainees from other bureaux. We provide support and supervision, and the emphasis is on gaining competence to become a generalist adviser.
Many of our advisers go on to use the experience gained during their training and work here to find paid employment.
All we ask, in addition to a six hour per week commitment, is that you have the skills to be a good listener, that you are able to work in a team, to read and write English, have basic maths and be non-judgemental and open minded.
